What is a summer dance intensive?
Every summer, thousands of dancers seek out intensive dance study so they can advance come the following season. Finding a top notch summer dance intensive is critical to a dancer's development. Serious dancers take class 4 to 6 days a week, but sometimes they need a little more one-on-one attention to truly get the competitive edge.
Summer dance intensives are also sought out by dancers who are still in school and cannot dedicate as much time to their dancer training as they'd like. This gives them the chance to focus and advance with some of the most renowned teachers and seasoned professionals in the world. These particular masters of dance do not always teach year round, so they are rarely available to share their expertise outside of a summer training workshop.
A summer dance intensive is like a master class that lasts for a couple weeks. The classes are daily, and run all day long. Some of these programs offer various styles of dance known as the general "dance" intensive. Others are just for a specific genre of dance such as ballet, tap or modern dance.
If a student wants intensive instruction from a top notch teacher, he or she must audition and be accepted into the program. Some of the better dance programs will be limited. Every summer dance intensive program has a deadline to enroll, so start looking into it now! These programs can have a tuition price that is a little hefty. But in the life of a dancer this is worth every penny.
Many dancers will take the intensive course when they hit a plateau and don't feel they are progressing at the same level they once were. It is a great idea to invest in a great summer dance intensive program if you are a serious dancer.
